Kimball Celebrates Victory in the First Annual Northeast Open Modified Summer Showdown

Winchester, NH: Under beautiful skies and large crowd, Matt Kimball (Bennington, NH) celebrated a hard-fought victory in the first annual Northeast Open Modified Summer Showdown. Other winners included Hunter Duquette (Young Guns), Kyle Kenny (Pure Stocks), JD Stockwell (Super Streets) and Doug Meservey Jr (Pro 4 Modifieds).

A full field of Tour Type Modifieds were on hand to battle it out for the $5000.00 pay day. After a redraw, Brett Meservey was declared the pole sitter to start the 100-lap special event. Matt Hirschman, starting third, wasted no time taking the lead on lap twelve restart as the battle brewed behind him between Sammy Rameau, Brian Robie and Matt Kimball. On lap ninety-two Rameau made the pass on Hirshman to take the top spot as Kimball followed. Hirshman started to be shuffled back as Robie, Meservy and Austin Beers made the pass to settle in the top five. Kimball on the back bumper of Rameau made several attempts to take the lead but was denied until the final lap and the final turn when Rameau got sideways allowing Kimball to pass for the checkered flag. Robie and Meservey followed for the second and third spot. Rameau finished fourth as Beers rounded out the top five.

Wesley Stedt set the pace for the Super Street feature alongside Zack Zilinski. It did not take too long for Dylan Zullo and JD Stockwell to make it to the front and thrilled the fans with side-by-side action for the lead while Erik Smith, Hillary Renaud and Robert Hagar battled for the top five. As laps winded down, Stockwell settled in the lead as Hagar took over second. With the wave of the checkers, it was Stockwell leading the way followed by Hagar, Zullo, Smith and Renaud.

In the Pure Stock action, Jimmy Zellman and Dominick Stafford brough the field to green flag start. Zellman took command early followed by Kyle Kenny, Andrea St. Amour and Markus O’Neil. On lap six, Kenny made his move to the top spot. A few laps later Zellman fell back to fifth as Strafford challenged O’Neil for third. At the checkers it was Kenny celebrating in victory lane followed by St. Amour, Stafford, O’Neil and Zellman.

Young Gun Ella Grabowski set the pace for their fifteen-lap feature. Duquette, who started third, successfully took the lead from Garbowski and never looked back taking down the victory followed by Grabowski, Maya Bell and last week’s winner Sofia Rego.
