ROBIE AND BROUSSEAU SPLIT MODIFIED TWINBILL AT MONADNOCK

WINCHESTER, N.H. – Former track champ Brian Robie and open-wheel rookie Andrew Brousseau split a Modified twinbill Saturday on the high banks of Monadnock Speedway, while full-fender star Justin Beecher dominated an R&R Open Street Stock 75-lap special event.
It was Brousseau’s first career victory in the potent Mods, and Beecher’s first career win at the storied Winchester quarter-mile. Young Gun alumnus Markus O’Neal was also a first-time winner Saturday, topping the Pure Stocks in their second event of the season.
John Fultz was victorious in the Mini Stocks, Cody Hodgdon carried the checkers in the visiting New England Dwarf Cars, and second-year Young Gun Hunter Duquette topped the youth division feature.
Robie won the first All State Material Group 604 Modified 40-lapper, set fast time in qualifying for the nightcap, and appeared on his way to his second victory of the night. Brousseau, though, had saved his best stuff for last. After having wobbled out of a top-three earlier, the second-generation hot shoe exploded from the top of the track on a lap-38 restart to end the night atop a thriller.
The start of Saturday’s event was delayed by more than an hour, as showers swept in during practice. Speedway owner Norm Wrenn and crew then went to work, making the oval again race-ready to reward both fans and competitors with another blockbuster night of racing.
Todd Patnode and Trevor Bleau sat up front as the night’s first Modified main event went green, with Patnode quickly taking charge and leading the first three go-rounds until Robie – from row two – blasted to the front along the backstretch. Brousseau was up to second a lap later.
By lap 28, Bleau was back up to third and hard on the charge. He took second on lap 38 but, in this event, had nothing for the speedy Robie. Defending track champ Tyler Leary got up for third, with Patnode good for fourth, and Brousseau in the five spot.
JT Cloutier and Ty Leclerc led the field to the green in the nightcap, with Leclerc quickly taking charge. The youthful Bay State star would hold the point until giving way to Brousseau on lapp19. Robie, charging from row four, was close behind.
Robie took the lead on lap 27, fully focused on completing the night’s twin killing. Brousseau, though, wasn’t buying it. Taking the lead once, only to lose it on a caution, he rocketed to the front on a lap-38 restart and scored the huge win. Robie finished at his bumper in second, with Leclerc in third.
Adam Gray and Derek Gluchaki led the stacked 23-car R&R Open Street Stock field to the green at the start of their 75-lap main event. And while it would be wildly contested – the caution waved no fewer than 11 times - Justin Beecher had all the bases covered en route to his first win on the high banks.
Beecher, from way back in row six, took the lead on lap 16, and never looked back as he won with ease. Gluchalki and Tommy O’Sullivan traded paint for the second time in the event on lap 74, with Gluchalki winning out for second.
John Fultz took the lead from Tim Paquette on lap two of the Fabian Fuels Mini Stock feature, gave way to Owen Zilinski on lap seven, and then took charge again three laps later en route to victory.
Cameron Sontag was second on the night, with potent Louie Maher third. Zilinski was fourth under the flags, and veteran star Pat Houle finished fifth.
Teen star Markus O’Neil led all the way in the caution-free Brattleboro Towing and Recovery Pure Stock 25-lapper to score his first victory since graduating from the Young Guns division. Close behind, fellow youth division alumnus Addison Brooks scored her best finish to date with an impressive runner-up performance.
Week one winner Jimmy Zellman was third in Saturday’s Pure Stock feature, using the podium finish to advance his early season points lead over Kyle Kenny, who exited the event early.
A massive lap-three wreck took out top New England Dwarf Car runners Zig Geno and Miller Buzzell, but it did nothing to slow storming Cody Hodgdon, who led the last 23 laps to score the victory. Series strongman Tom Harwood was second, and Andrew Harmon came home third.
Hunter Duquette led all the way to win the Doug’s Auto Body Young Guns feature. Maya Bell pressured him all the way before settling for a strong second, and week one winner Sofia Rego came home third.
