ROBIE SOARS TO FIRECRACKER 100 WIN SATURDAY AT MONADNOCK
Monadnock Speedway Saturday, June 28, event story
WINCHESTER, N.H. - There’s no place like Monadnock Speedway for a great fireworks show, no place like the high-banked oval for a great Modified racing event.
Saturday, the Sunapee speedster of Brian Robie blistered the quarter mile in a mind-bending qualifying lap of 11.959 seconds and then rocketed to victory and a $3,000 payday in the night’s Firecracker 100 main event.
With a huge crowd on hand for the speedway’s famed annual Independence Day weekend celebration event, the Bay State teen Zilinski brothers each scored Saturday victories too, Zach winning the Super Street feature, and Owen the top dog in the Mini Stocks.
Markus O’Neal, like Zilinski, a recent Young Guns grad, stormed to victory in the Pure Stocks, and Travis Hollins won the Six Shooter feature. Hayden Kingsley dominated the visiting 603 Mini Cup division.
JT Cloutier and Trevor Bleau led the Allstates Materials Group 604 Modifieds to the green as the night’s 100-lap main event began. Bleau was fast to the lead, holding the top spot until Joey Jarvis took control on lap 19. Farther back, Brian Robie was on the charge.
Firing from row five, Robie got up for fourth on lap 23, third three circuits later, and took second from Andrew Brousseau on lap 32. Seizing the lead from Jarvis on lap 47, he was off to the races, but not without Bleau.
Bleau got back up to second on lap 53 and while he could keep the leader within reach, he could never pass him. With Bleau an impressive second, Jarvis held strong to come home third, Nate Wenzel and Brad Zahensky completed the top five.
Robie’s Firecracker 100 victory was his third this season on the Monadnock high banks. It was also the Modified star’s second win of the weekend.
Qualifying with a heat race win in the Twin State Truck Services Super Streets, teen ace Zach Zilinski started up front in the nightcap main event and never looked back. Second generation star Dylan Zullo rocketed up to second on lap five but this Saturday had nothing for the soaring Zilinski.
With Zilinski winning by a country mile, Zullo rocked to second, and JD Stockwell, victorious a week earlier, was third.
Like his brother, Owen Zilinski earned a big victory lap Saturday. Taking the lead on lap two of the Fabian Fuels Mini Stock feature, he then outran John Fultz to the checkers, scoring his second win of the summer three lengths ahead of his closest foe. Former high banks champ Louie Maher came in third followed by Kevin Clayton and Chris Fulz.
Kyle Begos led early in the Brattleboro Towing & Recovery Pure Stock feature, with Addison Brooks blasting into the top spot on lap seven and then opening a huge lead until a lap-14 caution brought Markus O’Neil to her door.
O’Neil took over on the subsequent restart and held off a swarming pack to score the win. Previous two-time winner Kyle Kenny took second on the last lap, finishing inches ahead of Brooks. Andrea St. Amour and Carter Conroy were fourth and fifth.
Travis Hollins ended 2024 Six Shooter champ Michael Yeaton’s winning streak with a flourishing Saturday, topping both the heat and feature races. Yeaton was strong in second, and Meghan Bell impressed in third followed by Lee Bell and David Piper.
Hayden Kingsley had all the bases covered in the 603 Mini Cup division on Saturday. Jason Faulkner was second, and Jacob Raby was the bronze medal winner.
Monadnock Speedway returns to action next Saturday, July 5, when the SMAC Super Modified series visits the high banks, joining a full card of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series action.
